Louis XV Heritage Restoration
2025
Rembourrage Traditionnel & Stabilisation de la Structure
Brussels, Belgium
Project Overview
This project involved the complete "new life" restoration of a set of family heirloom Louis XV Bergères. The furniture was found in a state of severe neglect, with collapsed seating and structural instability, requiring a blend of cabinetmaking and master upholstery.
Design Philosophy
Our approach focused on "restauration de qualité" by honoring the piece's history while updating its aesthetic for a modern home. We selected a vibrant Pierre Frey contemporary fabric to contrast with the classical wood, bridging two centuries of French craftsmanship.
Key Features
Structural Restoration
- Complete stripping back (dégarnissage) to the original beechwood frame.
- Stabilization of loose joints handled by our partner cabinetmakers to ensure safety and longevity.
Traditional Craftsmanship
- "À l'Ancienne" padding using traditional webbing, springs, and natural horsehair for authentic comfort.
- Meticulous finishing with hand-sewn "passementerie" and double piping (galon).
Textile Selection
- High-end contemporary textile selection from our partner showrooms to match the client's desire for a bold interior statement.
Technical Specifications
- Seating Type: Louis XV Bergères & matching footstool.
- Method: Traditional horsehair padding (Artisanale à l'Ancienne).
